| Abstract. Logistics is very important area for business, making operational costs more efficient, and business more profitable and competitable. Logistics is also crucial from societal perspective, as logistic activities is a core part of all important trade connections, many labour is involved and finally improving logistic systems can reduce environmental problems. The digitalization process that the world faces today provides new opportunities for businesses to benefit from trade, especially after consequences of Covid-19 pandemic. The growing number of digital trade transactions, weather it is national or cross-border raises new challenges to the logistic systems. Ongoing rapid change in transformation of traditional trade and logistics require new technologies, overview of existing rules, principles and standards that touches the diverse set of issues, including e-payments and e-signatures, information flows, privacy, consumer protection and cybersecurity. The need for effective logistics management will not decrease in the future. Managing digital trade and logistics systems in a more global arena, cooperation with different suppliers, improving customer service, and keep up profitability and long-term competitiveness will be challenging. To meet this challenge first of all a well-educated work-force is needed. Digital trade and adapting logistic systems are transforming labour market requirements. Professionals who plan to work in this field need adequate training and gain respective skills in order to meet companies’ expectations. In most of countries, including Azerbaijan logistics and digital trade and related subjects are tough in higher education institutions. Thus, higher education has an important role to play in order to provide business and society with well-educated logistics personnel. Since not much research has been done to find out the right set of skills and knowledge required within higher education curriculum in logistics, the purpose of this article is no define which skills and knowledge are important for new generation logistic specialist to perform high quality logistic jobs in digital trade. More specifically, the research question aims to define which skills and knowledge are important for students to learn during higher education in digital trade logistics. The author conducted comprehensive literature review for this article. The literature covers global systems and gives limited information on what is to be learned during high education on national level, thus an online survey had been conducted with questions helping to understand the current situation in knowledge and skills of personnel within logistic and digital trade companies and what logistical skills and knowledge is important to learn during the education to improve the overall situation. Based on the findings a number of suggestions to contribute for the quality of higher education are proposed. |
